People blame a lot of things for being overweight. Some say it’s their sweet tooth, others their inactivity but scientists are now saying your profession maybe to blame.
Researchers looked at 5000 plus people, over the age of 45, who had no history of heart disease. They were tested for blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, fitness levels, diet, smoking and obesity. The researchers found 5 professions that may adversely affect your health.
Salesman – 68% of the salesman in the study had poor eating habits and 69% had high cholesterol.
Administrative Support staff – This group of individuals were inactive and didn’t visit the gym often.
Fire and Police Department staff- Although this group should be healthy and fit, they were overweight (90%), had high cholesterol (77%) and Blood pressure (35%)
Transportation and Material movers – The majority of this group still smoked, although most Americans have quit the habit. Nearly 25% of this group smokes, making them the profession that smokes the most.
Professions that work with food – People who work with food, eat a lot of it. 79% of the people in this group had poor diets.
The healthiest professions are managers, doctors and lawyers. They manage to get to the gym and those who don’t, are moderately active. One third of this group had the ideal body mass. This healthy group had 6% of smokers. However, the managers in Finance and Business, did not fair well, as they ate poorly.
