In a study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health, a clear relationship exists between the consumption of yoghurt as well as the risk of Type 2 diabetes.
The senior researcher, Dr. Frank Hu, said, “We found that higher intake of yogurt is associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes, whereas other dairy foods and consumption of total dairy did not show this association. The consistent findings for yogurt suggest that it can be incorporated into a healthy dietary pattern.”
This study was published in the BMC Medicine, and that was funded by the National Institutes of Health initially conducted this study to find association between types of dairy as well as type 2 diabetes amongst adults.
In this study, 194,519 participants filled out a health and lifestyle questionnaire, with most if not all of them, were health professionals be it dentists, vets, pharmacists, nurses and physicians.
During the follow-up period, 15,156 of these cases were found to have type 2 diabetes. However, no relationship was found between Type 2 Diabetes and overall dairy consumption. Yet, when analyzing data between high yogurt intake and this type of diabetes, the risk of this chronic disease occurring was found.
In fact, consuming of 28 g of yogurt every day was linked with an 18% lower risk of type 2 diabetes. Not quite differently, probiotic yogurt will protect both children and pregnant women from heavy metal poisoning.
Diabetes, by nature, causes high blood sugar levels where 90% of its patients suffer from Type 2 Diabetes. In this type, either the person’s body suffers from insulin resistance or does not produce sufficient insulin.
