Too often, parents dread bringing their kids to the grocery store because they know that they’ll end up loading their carts full of sugary cereals and fatty snack foods. Even if you and your kids aren’t ready to hit the "Fat Farms" to lose some weight, you still want to do your best as a mother or father to ensure that your kids are eating right. After all, instilling good eating habits now means there’s less of a risk that they will need to attend a weight loss retreat in the future.
If you are someone who frequently brings their kids along for grocery shopping, why not turn it into a lesson in how to shop right and eat healthy? Make a list that focuses on grains, fruits and veggies, and lean meats and dairy products, explaining to your kids why fatty and sugary foods have been left off the list. When in the store itself, show your kids how the layout relates to the health value of the foods. Most stores have the healthier foods on the ends and the less healthy foods on the insides. Let them read the nutrition information on the label and let them know what they should be looking for. You can even let them pick healthy favorites. Healthy eating today could mean no adult weight loss camp tomorrow.
