If you are a medical student you will more than likely hear the term labiaplasty before the average “Joe” will. However, it is not something that average people should be embarrassed about not knowing the meaning. This is because people in the medical field or training to be in the medical field must know terms such as menorrhagia and pelvic organ prolapse in order to do their jobs correctly. If they did not know such terms then when people experienced these problems they would basically have to find a solution on their own.
Doctors, nurses and other medical people are very important in our society. They are able to help us understand what is going on with our bodies. Sometimes it may be something simple and normal while other times it may be something more serious that needs attention right away. If you are visiting a professional in the health care field that does not use terms that you do not understand you should be weary. This is because they are supposed to use the medically correct terms then give you a simpler term in regards to what the phrase or word they used means.
Overall, never feel undereducated when doctors use big medical terms that you are unfamiliar with. This just shows that they are doing their jobs and they are properly educated. They are here to help us when we experience medical conditions and some of them will have outrageous names but at least they will provide and explanation afterwards.
